The fuel that drives the Ultimate Lifestyle

In a recent article (What is The Ultimate Lifestyle), I
talked about the 8 core components that define "The
Ultimate Lifestyle."

The first component was income streams, and the reason it
was listed as #1 is because if you want to live the ultimate
lifestyle (as you define it), you must:

- Have total control over your time (i.e. you're your own
boss, not an employee)

- Have numerous income streams flowing, with as many of them
as possible being "passive" or requiring minimal time and
effort from you. To truly live the ultimate lifestyle, you
must have income that flows whether you "show up for work"
or not. These income streams are the "fuel" that drives The
Ultimate Lifestyle.

In this article, I'm going to discuss the "Top 10" income
streams you can setup. There are actually many more than 10,
but we don't have we room to discuss them all here.

You may be in a position to take advantage right now of many
or all of the streams I discuss, or it may take some time
and effort to get one or more of them flowing. There's no
hurry. Creating the ultimate lifestyle takes vision, time,
planning and effort.

All the streams I discuss may not interest you or match your
preferred lifestyle, and it isn't necessary to have all of
them flowing at once (or at all) to live your own ultimate
lifestyle. I'm just giving you food for thought.

Here are the "Top 10" best ways I've found to generate the
streams of income required to truly live your ultimate
lifestyle:

1. Start/Run Your Own Business

We're living at a fantastic time in history if your goal is
to start your own business and create passive or "low
effort" income streams from it selling products or services.

With the many benefits of the Internet, the power of direct
marketing (online and offline), and the large number of top-
notch contractors and third party companies you can offload
the day-to-day "grunt work" to, today's entrepreneurial
environment a dream come true if you know how to set things
up to take maximum advantage of the many tools and resources
available.

In addition, it has never been easier to set up a strong
flow of income doing something you love or you're really
passionate about - no matter what it is or how "obscure" it
may be. Again, the Internet and direct marketing create
unprecedented levels of opportunity.

Finally, there are numerous tax advantages to having your
own business which enable you to put much more money in your
own pocket -- if you know how to set things up and take
maximum advantage of the many tools and systems available.

If you want to live your ultimate lifestyle, your own
business will be at the core of it. It's my #1 choice for
creating the ultimate lifestyle.

2. Royalties

If you have a specific area of expertise and you know how to
turn it into a book, audio, video or multi-media course, you
can get other people to manufacture it, sell it, manage all
the details, and send you a royalty check for a percentage
of the sales. This is a great stream of passive income and
one I'm currently pursuing aggressively.

You can also generate passive royalty income from inventions
or other marketable ideas of various kinds.

You make less money "per piece" when you go this route, but
the fact that you don't have daily responsibility for
managing the production, sales, accounting and other details
has a lot of value, and if you set it up right, the products
that generate royalties for you also cause people to come
back into your orbit to buy and do other things that end up
benefiting you in many other ways in the long run.

Do you feel this is a good idea but you don't think you have
the expertise that could translate into a royalty stream?
That *might* be true, but I can almost guarantee that you
have expertise you don't know you have, you could easily
create it by following a passion and/or create a potential
royalty stream from knowledge you have or could get if you
got some the right kind help.

3. Licensing Fees

This income stream is similar to the royalty stream, but has
many notable differences. Licensing involves charging a fee
to allow others to sell products you create (books, tapes,
videos, etc.), or to use your likeness, logo or other very
visible aspect of your work, business or "brand."

Licensing can also take the form of allowing others to
present a seminar, workshop or talk you've designed that
provides many benefits to the audiences receiving them. I
have two friends, Charles and Will, who've licensed the
rights to one, two and three day seminars with their
material, and they receive HUGE checks every month.

Will actually has 5000 people licensed to present his one
day seminar, and tens of thousands of people are getting the
benefit of his work, and he's getting big checks without
lifting a finger.

There are other forms of licensing, however, that don't
require expertise on your part, just visibility and a
"brand."

One example includes Disney who licenses their logo, the
likenesses of Disney characters, etc. Another example
includes Harry Potter merchandise. Another example includes
the use of the Coke or Pepsi logo.

While it's true that these examples center around huge
companies, there are a variety of licensing opportunities
for "little guys" like you and me if you get creative and
set it up right.

4. Real Estate

I've only dabbled in real estate over the years, but I'm
gearing up with my wife to get very involved with Real
Estate in 2004 and beyond.

Passive income streams can flow out of Real Estate in many
ways, including:

Buying and then re-selling foreclosures and other
"distressed" properties

Buying apartment buildings or office buildings

Buying a building for your own business use (I plan to do
this in a few years)

Buying houses, renovating them, and reselling them (my
stepmother does this with a good friend of mine in Los
Angeles and they're *very* successful at it) Real Estate
does require that someone "shows up" to do various things,
but you can set it up so you aren't that "someone." That's
my goal and plan with my wife.

There are many people out there who teach powerful systems
for setting up passive income streams with Real Estate.

5. Investments

You can setup passive or "low effort" income streams from
having cash you invest in "vehicles" that generate
dividends, interest, or other forms income.

You can also generate an income stream, although it's not
completely passive (but might suit your lifestyle
preferences) by trading stocks, options, or commodities.

There's an art to generating income from investments.

You do not want to choose this option without exercising
great caution and/or finding an advisor or partner that can
do it for you.

6. Life Insurance

This is a longer term strategy and one designed more for
your retirement years, but there are forms of life insurance
that allow you to fund the policy in earlier years and then
receive guaranteed income in later years. I'm putting a
program like this in place as we speak.

7. Sale/Payout Of A Business

If you have your own business, you can sell it one day
(maybe even soon) and use the cash you receive to fund your
ultimate lifestyle -- and/or to pursue the other passive
income streams discussed here.

My father did this. He bought a small chain of travel
agencies, built it up, then sold it. He got cash at the time
of sale, but also had an "earn out" that sent a strong
income stream to him for 15 years. My friend randy did the
same thing when he sold his business.

8. Network Marketing

Network Marketing (or "MLM") gets a bad rap from many people
and in many circles, yet it's one of the best ways to create
passive, or reasonably passive income streams, if you pick
the right company and work the system correctly.

9. Other Partnerships

In addition to the options listed above, there are a variety
of other partnerships and relationships you can create where
you help other people to achieve their goals, get something
they really want, or give them something to sell, and they
compensate you for it.

10. Information Products

This is a subset of having your own business, but I'm
breaking it out separately because it's an ultimate
lifestyle creation tool you should consider even if you
already have your own business right now.

When I say "information products," I mean books, tapes,
courses, seminars, coaching programs, etc.

There are many people who already have a business doing
something (like being a doctor, dentist, real estate
broker), and through having that business, they've developed
a strong expertise that can help other people in the same
business enhance their success.

For example, I know one dentist who's so skilled at a
particular kind of reconstructive dentistry, that other
dentists flock to him and he's created additional income
streams from sharing his expertise through a newsletter,
seminars and "look over my shoulder" events. He generates $1
million a year from his information products business and
could stop practicing dentistry at any time if he wanted to.

I know of another man who's in the lumber business who
developed a revolutionary process for drying lumber faster.
He started teaching that process to other people in the
lumber business through just 2-3 weekend seminars a year and
created a $250,000 a year income stream from it.

I know of a very successful real estate broker who created a
variety of information products (courses, seminars, and
coaching) to teach other real estate brokers how to use his
system to make a lot more money with a lot less effort.
While he's still working as a real estate broker every day,
his information products business generates a huge income
stream for him and he could also stop working as a broker at
any time if he wanted to.

I know of a very successful carpet cleaner who is now living
his ultimate lifestyle teaching other carpet cleaners how to
increase their sales and profits using his unique approach.

I also know a very successful orthopedic surgeon and
mortgage broker who want to stop working so hard in their
chosen field and are currently seeking ways to create
information products businesses to replace their current
incomes while making dramatic shifts in their lifestyles.

Do you have your own business and have developed a unique
expertise or approach that could be converted into an
information products business?

The Next Steps ...

Depending on where you are right now in your career, you may
be thinking to yourself, "This all sounds great, but I have
absolutely no idea what income streams I might be able to
setup or how to do it."

If that thought (or one like it) crossed your mind, stay
tuned. I'll be discussing some "what to do" and "how to do
it" ideas in future articles.

Six Steps to Guarantee Your Business Success

Many of us slave away for years for one uninspiring company after another and dream of the day when we can sack the boss and go it alone.

If you’re contemplating starting your own business then I’m here cheering you on from the sidelines because the best decision I ever made was to walk away from my well paid but oh so frustratingly boring job and start my own business from scratch.

I’d always believed in Bob Dylan’s definition of success - “a man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” And it was these words and this sentiment that drove me to seek out business success on my own.

While I was in the planning stages of things I read around a lot and discovered that there are six main steps that you can follow to give your business the best chance of survival and success. With hindsight I can confirm that these six steps do guarantee your business success, so here they are for you, use them as your guide: -

1) Plan to Succeed

“Action without planning is the cause of all failure. Action with planning is the cause of all success.” - Brian Tracy.

You need to establish an intricate business plan that will guide you through the start-up hurdles and ongoing development of your business. Whether you’re planning on establishing a global company that will eventually employ many individuals or you’re intending to establish an on-line business from your bedroom that will employ only you, you must spend the necessary time and effort plotting out how exactly your company will be established, who your customers are, how you will reach them, how you will finance your ongoing operations and where exactly you’re headed with your business.

“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Accordingly a genius is often merely a talented person who has done all of his or her homework.” - Thomas Edison

Be a business genius, remember the planning stages are critical to the future success of your business - don’t rush them.

2) Money Matters

“Before you can really start setting financial goals, you need to determine where you stand financially.” - David Bach

You need to look at your own personal financial situation and determine exactly how much money you will need to live on, how much money you have to invest in your business, how much money is required to start up and run your company and how exactly you’re going to fund the future of your business. Get down to the financial nitty gritty before you get down to business and you will avoid the number one reason why businesses fail – namely, lack of capital.

Crunch those numbers and be realistic rather than fatalistic or optimistic! You can and will succeed, but first you must arm yourself with the boring facts and figures and then you can put in place the financing you need.

3) To Score Goals You Have To Set Goals

“Most people struggle with life balance simply because they haven't paid the price to decide what is really important to them.” - Stephen Covey

Having mapped out your business journey intricately, having put in place the financing you will need to travel the path towards success you have to begin setting yourself business and personal goals. If you have nothing to aim for you will never achieve your target! Where do you want to be in one month’s time, where do you want your company to be in one year’s time?

Set stage goals for you, your company, your employees, your finances and your success. Follow your progress closely, keep one eye on your goals and you will never fail to succeed.

4) Sure Up Support and Understanding

“Getting things accomplished isn't nearly as important as taking time for love.” - Janette Oke

No man is an island therefore your hopes, dreams, ambitions and goals should be shared with your loved ones and they need to give you the support and understanding required for success.

Starting a business is always challenging, it is at times stressful and it can take up a very large part of your life. If you explain what you’re doing and why you’re doing it to your loved ones they will give you the time, love and support you need to succeed.

At the same time it is critical that you do not lose your perspective and fail to take the time necessary to love and care for your family. All too often you hear tired and stressed out businessmen and women complaining of a lack of spousal understanding, whining that they are working so hard directly for the benefit of said spouse – this creates disharmony and acrimony on both sides – what a waste of a great life!

Get everything in perspective and keep everything in perspective at all times, and bring your family and friends on board for guaranteed success.

5) Protect What’s Important
“Happy is the man who can endure the highest and lowest fortune. He who has endured such vicissitudes with equanimity has deprived misfortune of its power.” - Seneca

To further deprive misfortune of its power you can put in place various insurance policies to protect yourself, your family, your current situation and your business from undue risk. Because there are no two ways about it, starting out on your own is a risky business – focus on the success of your business and follow these six steps and you will achieve all you want to. And in the interim protect what’s important to you – for example, think long and hard before mortgaging your family home to fund your company! Get business and personal indemnity insurance in place, make sure health and life insurance policies are in place protecting you, your family and any key employees.

But - don’t get hung up on this point because worrying unduly about risk will blinker your vision. Deal with this point and move on!

6) Face The Enemy - Deal Directly With Accountants & Lawyers

“Money is plentiful for those who understand the simple laws which govern its acquisition.” - George Clason

Every single business has to act within the laws of the countries it operates in and deals with and every single business has certain reporting and taxation requirements. These are definite hurdles designed to restrict the visionary, but they are necessary hurdles to protect a company’s consumers, a business’ partners and a country’s economy.

Take the time to establish a good working relationship with your company’s accountant and lawyer. Make sure your company is properly structured from the start and that you fully understand and adhere to taxation and reporting deadlines and rules.

Know what is expected of you, understand why it’s important to follow the rules and structures that have been put in place and have a system to deal with tax returns, pay runs, company disclosure and contract negotiations and remember: -

“Taxes are not good things, but if you want services, somebody's got to pay for them so they're a necessary evil.” - Michael Bloomberg

Use these six steps as the guide towards your business success and always strive to keep your vision alive because “vision is perhaps our greatest strength…it has kept us alive to the power and continuity of thought through the centuries, it makes us peer into the future and lends shape to the unknown.” - Li Ka Shing

Newspaper Printing Transcending Time

Newspapers have been a remarkable part of human society way back some five centuries ago. Newspapers especially in Renaissance Europe are hand written and then privately circulated among merchants since the most common topics discussed are all about wars and then economic conditions that affect society. The first ever printed newspapers appeared in Germany in 1400 in the form of pamphlets or broadsides which are often times exaggerated in content. Its usual topic concerns German’s atrocities like the famous folklore about Count Dracula.

The earliest predecessors of newspaper in the English-speaking world are called corantos which are small news pamphlets that contained noteworthy events. And the very first consecutively published newspaper was titled The Weekly Newes which was made available in the year 1622. Numerous newspapers of different titles also followed but they copied the format of The Weekly Newes.

The first ever published true newspaper in English was the London Gazette which was distributed in the year 1666. This newspaper was officially approved among the vast number of periodical titles and lasted for about a century.

The first newspaper printing press was used by Ben Franklin which was called the Ramage Press. This printing press was constructed entirely out of wood however there are also some parts that make use of iron. This printing press is now displayed at the National Museum in Washington. Another printing press was developed by Earl Stanhope but this time he created his printing press frame using entirely iron. For the power he combined toggle joint and lever.

The quest for perfecting the printing press technology has continued to great parts of the world until the year 1850 to 1860 which showed great advancements in the presses. It was during these years that fast printing was developed to answer the ever increasing demands for newspaper. But there are some problems with the created presses and it has something to do with the plates used for the presses. However, this problem was solved in the year 1861 by the application of a steam bed that is used to dry a novel style of paper mache mold. This novel style of paper mache mold is use to make a stereotype replica of the type pages which are in the form of plates which are fitted around the cylinders. The process usually takes an hour or so to come up with a single plate.

On the contrary the present day presses are capable of creating plates in minutes and has the ability to print on both sides of the paper while passing through the presses. The octuple machine is one of the most awaited printing press at present since it has the ability to fold and counts 96,000 complete 8-page paper per hour or 48,000 complete 16-page papers at sizes like that of the ordinary daily newspaper. Right now only one of this machine is placed in operation and can be seen in the printing room of the New York World.

Internet Marketing: Has Traditional Web Site Optimization (SEO) Outlived Its Usefulness

When it comes to internet marketing, traditional web site optimization (SEO) still stands as the holy grail, but an increasing number of small and medium sized business owners, facing the prospect of high SEO fees, are just now beginning to turn to an alternative promotional method that is generating consistent and quantifiable results at a fraction of the cost.

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) September 17, 2005 - The cost of SEO, at least when it comes to highly competitive keyword phrases, is prohibitive for all but those with deep pockets.

"Matt Hocken, of Interactive Marketing, Inc., estimates that one can expect to pay upwards of $50,000 - $100,000 a year to secure top ten Google placement for a highly competitive keyword phrase like 'life insurance' or 'debt consolidation' and that's obviously out of the question for the small to medium sized business," Ron Scott, Fast Track SEOP's senior publicist reports.

Even the cost for placement using less popular keyword phrases can be high.

"A Houston publicist recently paid $5,000 to get her website optimized for a small number of obscure keyword phrases that Overture reports are cumulatively generating fewer than 200 inquiries a month. Not told that 50-75% of those searches are being routinely conducted by webmasters, SEOs, and website owners checking the current status of their websites, she's now wondering if she'll ever recoup the expense," Scott says.

So what’s the alternative? Pop-ups? Pop unders? Banner ads? Email? Not hardly.

Unlike an organic search engine optimization program that can take months and even years to start showing results, internet press releases start generating interest the day they are published.

"A properly optimized and distributed press release will typically generate 50,000 - 100,000 actual reads the first week it goes on line," says Scott.

According to Scott, unlike traditional press releases, 98% of all internet press releases are read by consumers and B2B prospects.

"Originally, press releases were the exclusive domain of the Fortune 500 and were directed to the mass media, but not any more. Small and medium sized businesses have discovered that they can deliver their messages directly to a broad (national or international) or highly targeted (local or regional) audience on the internet and, thereby, eliminate the tedious process of media placement," he says.

Scott points out that the value of an internet press release promotional strategy doesn’t stop there.

"Press releases can also be optimized for organic search which enables those who find their newly published websites residing in Google purgatory, the opportunity to secure top ten rankings in a week or less," Scott says.

To illustrate the value of the internet marketing strategy, Scott points to a release he prepared and distributed on behalf of a little known manufacturer in New Zealand.

"The first 30 calendar days, it generated 133,686 reads, drove over 25,000 visitors to their website, and generated 100s of inquiries from B2B prospects all over the world," he says. "Since that sampling taken at the beginning of June, the release has generated an additional 42,443 reads and a commensurate level of traffic and inquiries.
"It's the gift that keeps giving," he says.

Has traditional web site optimization outlived its usefulness?

"For most of our clients it has," Scott says.

Book Printing Press In The Present Time

The printing industry has changed immensely and the greatest proofs are imminent especially in book printing. In ancient times, only a limited number of books are published since very few authors are willing to write their books. You see books during those times are all hand written. Writing a book may take a year or so to finish. And of course we all know that handmade products are usually expensive so just imagine how much a book would costs during the ancient times.

If the actual writing already poses a problem just think of the problem in reprinting the same book. But thanks to the development of printing technology more books and other printed materials are easily printed today. Aside from that, there are also other options that are available to improve the quality of each book printed. As much as there are so many types of books there also numerous book printers and publishers that offers varying costs and benefits.

Book printing in its simplest sense is the method of having a book printed. But is it really all printing? Or is there something more to it that meets the eye? Book printing should never be confused with traditional publishing. Traditional publishing refers to the entire life cycle of a book starting off with the development of the book, then the creative design for the cover followed by printing, manufacturing, distribution and then the marketing of the books. Book printing is more of “your-own” publishing and printing scheme since you are the publisher and at the same time the printer of your own book.

At present there is a vast number of book printing presses already used by publishers as well as book manufacturers. Nevertheless, there are also local print shops that offer book printing services. The difference between professional book printing and your local print shop lies on the quality of the output. Books that have undergone professional book printing press procedures are more superior in terms of prints and then the colors used are more impressive compared to the quality of books that are simply done by inexperienced local copy shops.

An excellent choice of book printing company is one that takes the time to explain to its customers the benefits that may be derived from the technology in order to help their customers in correctly choosing the correct format, page count, ink type, colors as well as provide their customers with the quotes to help them with their budgets.

Catalog Printing: A Subtle Way Of Seducing Customers

As a business grows so is its need for better and cost-effective advertising materials. One option that business owners may try to consider is catalog printing. Catalogs are not only known for its ability to effectively grab the attention of customer but it is also famous in terms of the convenience it brought its readers. Convenience in the sense that it can be easily browsed and especially when done in full colors can really left a mark on the minds of its readers.

Catalogs are best option for businesses who may want to increase their sales. Another advantage derived in employing catalogs is that it saves the business time and money. There would be no need to employ separate advertisement materials for each product and services since everything are incorporated in a single catalog. The catalog will not only showcase products and services but will also show the prices as well as the individual description of each products and services. Customers are therefore provided with ample information that assists them in deciding whether they want to purchase or not.

Catalogs also provide a source of future sales since customers who may not have at present the money to buy any of the products and services on display would tend to keep the catalog for future reference of any product and services they may want to purchase. The significance of catalogs in promoting business is undeniable that is why it is important to hire only the best catalog printing company there is.

A well crafted catalog can tempt customers to take hold of products and services even if they don’t have a need for it yet. Professionally done catalogs are like nymphs seducing customers to indulge and take hold of products and services. You can attest to the catalog’s effectiveness in captivating customers, how many times have you ordered products that you don’t necessarily need, simply because the pictures look so tempting that you feel you just have to have one of those displayed products? I for one have always been a victim to the allure of catalogs. I just can’t seem to resist astounding pictures of cosmetics, bags, shoes….you name it, I ask you what a girl to do especially when the catalog is teeming with great discounts?

And how about catalogs on cars? Those awesome full color catalogs that seem to say go and ask your bank if they can grant you a loan right away! The effects that catalogs have on its readers are simply amazing that is why it is important to hire only the best catalog printing services available.

Brochure Printing For Good Business Impressions

A full color brochure is a great means of showcasing your business and products. Brochures are usually done in three standard sizes and these are 8 ½ x 11, 8 ½ x 14 and 11 x 17. The different brochure sizes have its specific use or purpose take for example the unfolded 8 ½ x 11 which is commonly used in creating product sheets or may be tri-folded if ever to be used as a company’s brochure. However, for those companies that want to economize the 11 x 17 brochure may be employed. These 11 x 17 brochures are simply folded in half.

There are certain things to consider when creating brochures. First you have to make the cover as interesting as possible. Bear in mind that it’s the cover that will be the first thing that your customers will notice when they received your brochures. The cover will determine the very first impressions of your customers toward your business.

Likewise, try to create a theme in which your customers may relate to and then make use of this theme all throughout the content in your brochure. Make use of one large illustration that illustrates a story that has significance to your readers for a much greater impact. In terms of pictures to be use for your brochures again it is best to choose photographs that provide an idea on the message that you want to convey. And then put captions on the cover to further provide your readers with ample information on what’s in store for them.

Try to have as much information in your brochure. Don’t be afraid to include every important information you deem helpful to your clients. And then highlight every facts that you want your customers to remember about your business like business hours, your business address, your business phone numbers, costs of products and services. Then make use of photos instead of drawings since photos suggest realism and is known to increase retention by 26%.

Then lastly try to make your brochures worth keeping. Make use of convincing words to encourage consumers to continuously support your business. Have your brochures printed by only the best brochure printing company available. Remember that your brochure acts as your representative to your customers so make sure you make a good impression.
